 * Hi all,
    I’m wondering if it’s possible to use wordpress as a CMS, and not just
   a blogging tool. I’m settin gup a website for my Dad 🙂 and he wants sections
   of the website, but doesn’t specifically want a blog. Is it possible to hack
   wordpress to get it to do that. Any pointers appreciated. Thanks – Kevin

 * You can do it, but it helps if you have a pretty good understanding of how the
   system works.

 * might want to take a look at e107.org. it’s more a community cms but also more
   bloated. still easy enough to work with for computer shy people.

 * Hey,
    Well I was playing around with the demo & I think I should be able to do
   it using a combination of normal articles, and having maintaing links. If anyone’s
   done it though tips would be apreciated. 🙂 cheers

 * Meant to add – thanks for the link to that CMS, but I really dislike community
   CMSes like PHP-Nuke and their ilk. Especially for this kind of thing since they’re
   overkill. thanks though.

 * It may be possible, I am looking into this just now for a few design clients
   and seeing how I can work WP into a CMS, its gonna be kinda hard to do but it
   should work.
    I’ll let ya know how I get on

 * I know about some sites that use other blog systems to work like a CMS. It’s
   just a kind of configuration and best use of categories. Take a look at google
   about blog (MT in fact) and CMS and you should found something.

 * I’m planning on doing something along these lines with WordSmith:
    [http://www.bradchoate.com/weblog/2003/07/15/movable-type](http://www.bradchoate.com/weblog/2003/07/15/movable-type)
   I don’t think it should be too hard, once they iron the bugs out of the category
   permalinks [http://wordpress.org/support/3/3298](http://wordpress.org/support/3/3298)
   Basically, all you need to do is to set the template to only show one post per
   page. The only thing I need to figure out how to do is to create a menu that
   will automatically show all the posts for the current (sub) category. The way
   I would like it to work is that when you click on a category, instead of showing
   you all the items in that category in the body of the page, it drops down a menu
   of the titles of all the posts in that category, or perhaps brings you to a “
   default” post for that category (i.e. “index”). Then there is one more step,
   which would be to integrate a blog into the site!!! I figure I’ll set up a second
   WordPress blog at a sub-domain of my site, say blog.mysite.com and then use some
   hack to display the latest posts from that blog on the main page of my “static”
   wordpress site. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
