# WordPress automatic update not working

 * Hello,
 * I am using wordpress 3.0.1 and now i am unable to upgrade to WordPress 3.0.4 
   using automatic upgrade.
    I gave my FTP details correctly and the page hangs 
   in this screen
 *     ```
       Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.4.zip…
       Unpacking the update…
       ```
   
 * No further response is seen. I tried it many times but no use. Also plugins do
   not udgrade.
 * I changed the chmod of `wp-content/upgrade/` to 777 but still no use. Any suggestions?

 * Sometimes it times out when your server doesnt like the size of the package, 
   also people with pureFTP on their server have had this problem.
 * Do a manual upgrade. Sucks, but it works.
