# WordPress Automatic Upgrade Not Working

 * Have v2.05 installed and working on a linux server with php 4.4.8
 * Am new to php etc and nervous about manually upgrading.
 * So I have installed [WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin ](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/#post-2560)
   which unfortunately runs but won’t work…
 * Running the upgrader returns the answer Can’t upgrade and the following
    error
   page
 * > Fatal error: Call to undefined function: add_filter() in /home/booksfor/public_html/
   > wordpress/wp-includes/default-filters.php on line 4.
 * Deactivating the plugin & restoring the backup gets me back to where I started–
   ie 2.05 and running
 * Any clues?
