 * My wordpress site has begun crashing every time I attempt a plugin update, with
   the following unhelpful messages
 * ![](https://i0.wp.com/fuzing.s3.amazonaws.com/demos/screen-shot-1.png?ssl=1)
 * ![](https://i0.wp.com/fuzing.s3.amazonaws.com/demos/screen-shot-2.png?ssl=1)
 * Each time I attempt an update of any of the 3 plugins that require updating,
   I receive the messages above, and my site crashes. After crashing, the wordpress
   instance needs to be restarted.
 * I’ve tried turning on WP_DEBUG, but nothing of significance appears in the wp-
   content/debug.log file.
   I have access to the host, and the volume/s for the docker
   container that’s hosting the wordpress instance (i.e. unfettered access), so
   I can make any changes required, but I haven’t encountered this issue before.
   Any assistance would be much appreciated.

 * Try manually updating.

 * **Solution:**
 * This issue is being caused by a bug in the Starter Templates plugin that has
   now been fixed.
 * If your site is stuck in maintenance mode, you can fix that by deleting the “.
   maintenance” file in your main WordPress directory (probably /public_html)
 * To update to the fixed version of the plugin:
    1. Deactivate the Starter Templates plugin (since it’s breaking the updater)
    2. Update the Starter Templates plugin to 3.1.26 or higher
    3. Reactivate the Starter Templates plugin
