 * I’m looking for a database expert to come in and check out why my site suffers
frequent slowdowns. Is anyone with valid credentials willing to help me out?

 * Many volunteers here would, but can you describe what’s going on with that slow
down? Meaning any idea what events trigger it or is it a slowdown always at the
   same time of day?
 * If you need/want to you can also post on [http://jobs.wordpress.net/](http://jobs.wordpress.net/)
   for paid help.

 * It’s actually pretty random, so I can’t provide specific timing, unfortunately.
There are time when the site just slows down – pages take long to load, etc.
The site doesn’t have much on it, I think, that should cause slow load times
   or slowdowns.

 * Those are the worst to solve simply because it’s not apparently consistent.
 * If you haven’t already done so, try and setup a graphical monitoring page such
as [Munin](http://munin-monitoring.org/). That’s the tool I used to chase down
a plugin that wasn’t working well for me.
 * Then you may be able to correlate memory/disk/IO usage with the slow down and
get to the bottom of it.

 * Any idea how I would go about installing that on my server? Is it an easy setup
like WordPress? (transfer in FTP, create database, and presto!)

 * The WordPress install is a gift to users everywhere. 😉
 * Munin and packages like that aren’t too bad but be can be daunting. I can’t recall
if I had any problems installing it or not…
 * Why not ask your host if they have a tool like that? It doesn’t need to be fancy,
just something that can hopefully help identify where/when the slow down is.

 * Hrm. Are there any monitoring tools that are good, but can be installed as easy
   as WordPress, or other scripts?

 * Not that I’m aware of. I really wasn’t kidding about WordPress being a gift to
   it’s users.
 * If you have an Ubuntu server then it’s not too difficult to install Munin. But
to get it working correctly, you need some (not much) system administration experience.
And root user access too, which many WordPress users just don’t have on their
   web hosts.
 * If you do have that access then find out the platform your web server is on and
do a search on that platform and Munin. See what pops up and read it carefully,
make backups, and try it out.
 * The backups part is important as some of those monitoring tools need you to add
to your web server configuration and that can be tricky.

 * Unfortunately, after looking into it, it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to install
   Munin, myself.
 * That said, I’m still open to anyone who can come in and check the situation out.
The site has been verryy slow, lately.
