 * I want a site like this:
 * [http://www.rafaelmacho.com/](http://www.rafaelmacho.com/)
 * I’m a designer not a developer. I have some basic knowledge of CSS and HTML and
   am willing to learn but I want this new site up in two weeks. I hand coded my
   site here:
 * [http://www.motionista.com](http://www.motionista.com)
 * What’s the best way to build this site? If I need to hire a WordPress developer
   where’s the best place to find one?

 * here’s a place to hire a developer
 * but with some basic knowledge, you can go a long way. You don’t need to know
   php per se to design in wordpress. Download some themes, and pick at em. If you
   understand the html/css portion, you can figure out the layout. Actually making
   wordpress work, with the loops and whatnot can be as simple as cutting and pasting
   from other themes until you get a grasp of what the code is doing.
 * and don’t forget, you can view source code, and css from any site to try to see
   what they are doing. That’s frequently what I do….

 * Thanks RVoodo. Do I need to download the WordPress application to do this or
   can I use the free WordPress sites? I’m not sure the capacity or features of
   the two routes WordPress offers, but my site will be much like the one mentioned.

 * ummm….I’d say if you want to get very custom, you need to download wordpress.
 * Thing is, you don’t just download wordpress….you have to buy hosting, and install
   wordpress
 * The free wordpress.com sites you can get are OK for blogging, but they are very
   limited in what you can do.
 * If you plan to get custom, you’ll need a self-hosted wordpress installation.
   That frees you up to make any changes you want, use any themes, make your own
   themes, install plugins, etc.

 * Thanks, you cleared that up pretty well. Sorry for one more question. Where’s
   the button to make this forum notify me by email when there’s been a reply to
   this thread?
