 * WordPress Team,
   Tonight I initially made this site to replace another site at
   patrickmulliganfitzsimmons.com, hosted by Go Daddy. I called their support team
   to ask if I could make the site on WordPress and still use the same domain. Their
   technician told me I could as long as I chose the “pre-existing domain” option
   when purchasing the WordPress site. I entered my domain and a green check mark
   appeared beside it along with the notification that the domain already existed.
   I spent the night creating the site and once I was ready to host I called Go
   Daddy to see how their FTP client interacted with Go Daddy and how I would update
   my site. This second representative told me this was impossible and I could not
   alter the domain or upload my WordPress Site.
 * I very much need the exact domain patrickmulliganfitzsimmons.com. Currently my
   site is hosted as patrickmulliganfitzsimmons._wordpress_.com. How can I ensure
   that my WordPress Site is hosted as patrickmulliganfitzsimmons.com without any
   mention of WordPress in the domain? I own both the WordPress Site and the domain
   I’m trying to host it under.
   Thank you,Patrick Fitzsimmons

 * Your question refers to the service of wordpress.COM. But you are here in the
   forum for self-installed WordPress.ORG installations. You should therefore please
   contact the support of wordpress.COM: [https://wordpress.com/support/](https://wordpress.com/support/)

 * As **threadi** has stated already, this has to do with WordPress.COM, the hosting
   provider you’re using.
 * But it seems you don’t fully understand the various pieces of the WordPress puzzle,
   so let me try to clear a few things for you:
 * 1) You’re now at **WordPress.ORG**: home of the free and open-source WordPress**
   _software_**. WordPress.ORG builds and supports the WordPress software, but does
   not offer any hosting services.
 * 2) To use WordPress to build your site, you need to host the software somewhere.
   There are numerous WordPress hosting providers out there, **including GoDaddy**.
   It’s very likely your existing hosting plan with GoDaddy can host your WordPress
   site, and this is what your GoDaddy support person may have had in mind.
 * 3) **WordPress.COM**, where you built your WordPress site (separate from WordPress.
   ORG), is a**nother WordPress hosting provider**, albeit a “managed” or “done-
   for-you” kind of WordPress host (meaning they take care of most of the technical
   work for you).

 * You have two options:
 * 1) Keep your site hosted with WordPress.COM: You’ll need to EITHER transfer your
   domain from GoDaddy to WordPress.COM, or keep the domain at GoDaddy but POINT
   it to your WordPress.COM site. Note that if you currently have a free WordPress.
   COM plan, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid WordPres.COM plan before you do this.
 * **Please see: [https://wordpress.com/support/domains/](https://wordpress.com/support/domains/)**
 * 2) As I mentioned earlier, you can also host your WordPress website with GoDaddy,
   and it’s possible that your existing GoDaddy hosting plan might even be suitable.
   So if you prefer to keep everything with GoDaddy, you’ll need to first **create
   a new WordPress site at GoDaddy** using your existing domain name (contact GoDaddy
   support for help with this).
 * After this, you may either export the site you created at WordPress.COM and import
   it to your new WordPress site at GoDaddy or just rebuild the site from scratch.
 * Note that hosting your website at GoDaddy will require a bit more technical work
   on your part compared with WordPress.COM.
 * I hope that helps to clear things up.
 * If you need further clarification on something, feel free to ask!
 * Good luck!
