 * Have a look at [WordPress Optimization/WordPress Performance](https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Optimization/WordPress_Performance).
   You could try some of the caching plugins available. I don’t know if they cache
   API responses or not. At the root, you need to determine what the bottleneck 
   is and focus on fixing that. Some sort of benchmarking tool could help with that.
   I’m unable to recommend anything specific though.
