# WordPress Network server requirements?

 * I tried to install and set up a WordPress Network this evening. After following
   the instructions and logging in as the admin, the Network link is not there.
   I tried going directly to /wp-admin/network/ and get the message “You do not
   have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
 * I’m really not sure what to do next.
 * I saw somewhere that someone had this problem because their web host didn’t support
   WordPress networks, so I thought I’d ask my network administrator but I couldn’t
   find the system requirements. This – [http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network#Server_Requirements](http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network#Server_Requirements)–
   is not particularly helpful.
 * Can someone point me to the system requirements for a wordpress network or provide
   any other help to get this working?
 * Thanks!

 * If your host supports WP, then they support networks/multisite. GENERALLY!!
 * What step have you gotten up to in setting up your network?

 * I followed all the instructions. It seems as though either there is a server
   configuration problem or I didn’t follow the instructions 100% correctly (though
   I’m pretty sure I did).

 * If it is a permissions issue then, do you have super admin rights?
 * Check in your profile.

 * On wp-admin/users.php it has me listed as “Administrator” In the “Change roll
   to…” drop down, there is no option for super admin.

 * If you’re not logged in as the super admin, then you can’t check to see if you
   are the super admin or make another one….

 * Okay, here’s the original message. Great.
 * Are you the ONLY administrator of this blog?

 * Is your username admin or something else? I have tried it with a different username
   than “admin”, so I know it does work.
 * We may have to go fix something in your db.

 * Hi Andrea, the admin username is “admin.” What do you suggest I do next?

 * Look in the sitemeta table for the admin_user_id field. should be 3rd one down
   right on the page when looking in phpmyadmin. It should have a value of 1 which
   should be the user id of your admin name.

 * I would also appreciate it if you could point me towards the server requirements.
   All I’ve been able to find so far is this – [http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network#Server_Requirements](http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network#Server_Requirements),
   which just says to contact the server admin.

 * It’s pretty standard stuff, same as single WP. The only thing extra is the wildcard
   subdomains – if you use them.
 * what host are you on?

 * Thanks. OurChurch.Com is the host. Pretty standard shared hosting environment
   I believe. I’m not using wildcard subdomains. Any other ideas?

 * Then they may have locked down a few things that you don’t have access to change.
 * Never heard of ’em. most of the *major* shared hosts have very few (and predictable)
   issues.

 * Well, can you tell me what those things are that they may have “locked down”
   so I can look into them? And if there are any other possible things other than
   server configuration that could be causing my problem could you list them all
   in one message so hopefully I won’t have to take up any more of your time?
 * Thanks!
