 * Hello everyone. I need some assistance please. In about a weeks time I expect
   around 50 000 hits on my wordpress website over a 7 day period. The number of
   hits might be much higher. I don’t want to reveal my website or explain why this
   will occur but I would like to know what steps to take to protect my wordpress
   site from being hacked/disabled/swamped/denial Of service attack etc. I have
   a few security plugins instlled but would appreciate any comments. The content
   published will be of a political nature and I’m worried about the consequences
   of this. Excuse my vague explanation but I really can’t be too specific right
   now.

 * Those are and should be treated as the two different topics they truly are. 😉

 * For dealing with a denial of service or just plain having a successful web site,
   consider caching plugins.

   [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/)
 * And tuning your Apache web server.

 * Or if nginx is your thing, there are many articles on how to optimize that too.

 * Search around and you should find a lot of material to help you build a fast
   and secure WordPress installation.

 * Yeah for sure use those caching plugins mentioned by Jan. That will save you
   the uptime. Also, in WP Super Cache, there is a function that will let you lock
   down your entire site in cache or specific pages (if you know what is going to
   get hit most). That way you are serving almost 100% from cached resources instead
   of slamming your database.
 * And for security, here’s some all around WP security tips: [http://blogcraving.com/wordpress-blog-security/](http://blogcraving.com/wordpress-blog-security/).
 * Good luck dude.

 * For help against DDOSing, you could try this plugin:
 * [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/iosec-anti-flood-security-gateway-module/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/iosec-anti-flood-security-gateway-module/)
 * I prefer Corz’ Anti-Hammer script. But that plugin may be a bit easier to implement.
