• Hi,

I’ve been working on my website using XAMPP. Today, I had to wipe out my macbook pro hdd and I restored a time machine backup from last night.

After I restored the backup, I run XAMPP and go to localhost/wordpress and find that my site is missing a lot of the changes I made from a week ago. I was just working on it Tuesday and it had those changes I made from a week ago and I made some additional changes.

Is there an explanation for this? Time machine should have backed up everything. It was restoring an image, not individually selected files.

    Thanks.

UPDATE: I copied the XAMPP folder from several different time machine backups ranging from several months ago to the most recent one (last night).

Seems like WordPress never saved those changes (it saved other changes). How is this possible? When I logged into the website these past few days, those changes were there.

Time Machine will restore files, but not content, as that’s stored in your database. You need to make sure that backups include the database. (Time Machine is not a good tool for this!)

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Where is the database located? It has to be somewhere on my computer right? That’s why I thought time machine should catch everything.

You’d need to ask the XAMPP folks about that.
