I have encountered a new situation where my site won’t load properly on via a desktop browser [Firefox and Chrome both showing same issue].

The site begins to load by showing the masthead and playing music, but then stops showing only the spinning loading icon. Visiting the site from a mobile device works for all the pages excepting the same splash page, which is what the developer calls a ‘front slider’.

The only other input on coincidental change is this weekend I began to build a business page on Facebook with a link to the site. Not sure if that could cause the site to lock up/ some kind of annoying Zuckerberg-loop cookies, tracking, general overreach… just mentioning in case it could.

I installed UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore but now see I failed to initiate auto back ups.. so the last back up is from January. The site’s webhost provider has 7 days back up and I have gone back 2 days to no avail…
    Thanks for input on this!

  • Try uninstalling your plug-ins and see if your site loads correctly.

I can see how to deactivate the plugins — is that the same or do I need to delete them?

Just noticed that the site actually works [beyond the front slider issue] after manually refreshing the site..

It’s all good…. I trashed the page that wasn’t loading, rebuilt it and now it and the entire site works.

Apparently one little corrupted ‘front slider page’ can stymie an entire site.
