 * In the past I have been generating a new sitemap.xml file everytime I added a
   new post then uploaded it with FileZila.
 * Today, I installed and activated a Sitemap.xml plugin for WordPress. So what
   happens from here. Is there anything more I have to do, or does the plugin work
   in the background generating a new sitemap.xml file with every change I make.
 * If not, can someone please tell me how to use this plugin simple-google-sitemap-
   xml/simple-google-sitemap-xml.php.
 * thanks

 * I use the [Google XML sitemap generator plugin](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/).

   Once installed, activated, it does everything for you.
 * You an also use [WordPress SEO](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/)
   by yoast and it incorporates Google sitemap.
 * Easy peasy

 * thanks Christine,
    Is there a way to check that it’s actually generating the
   sitemap. I find it hard to believe that once activated, you just forget about
   it and it generates sitemaps automatically.
 * thanks

 * I know, I find it hard to believe something I can’t see.

 * When you submit the sitemap it tells you if it was successful or that. Additionally
   it also generates the xml and sticks in your root folder. I don’t see why you
   would need more than that.

 * I don’t think it’s working. I checked my root folder and I see an older version
   of sitemap.xml, one that I manually uploaded last month. You said that it tells
   you if it was successful in submitting. How does it do that?

 * In the admin, you need to submit the sitemap the first time… There should be
   a settings for google xml sitemap. It’s under tools I think.
 * I would delete the one from your ftp and submit it again. It should say something..
   like submitted to google successfully, bing, yahoo,… etc…

 * Oh I finally got it to work. People create great plugins but they don’t tell
   you how to use them.
 * I would be interesting to know how many WordPress website designers are actually
   using WordPress properly.

 * I don’t know what you mean??????????
 * WordPress is used by millions of people????? What are you suggesting?

 * I’m not sure how I can word my statement any clearer, but then again, there are
   people who give instructions thinking they are providing perfectly clear instructions
   when, in fact, they’re not clear at all.
 * I guess I’m saying that WordPress is an amazing platform, a God send, but very
   few can explain even the simplest of instructions sometimes. A good example is
   the Sitemap Plugin that I easily installed and activated, but one that I had
   to fiddle around with it for about an hour to learn how easy it really was to
   set it up. 1 2 3 instruction, a one minute video tutorial, a 3 line document
   would have done it.

 * The [installation instructions](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/installation/)
   are pretty clear and straightforward in my opinion. The only change I can see
   is that the Options tab has been renamed Tools.
 * You need as well to consider the fact that plugin developers do this for free.
 * I’m marking this post as resolved now so others can find a solution if they have
   a similar issue.
