# wordpress to wordpress export/import missing much data

 * Hello all,
 * I’m moving my site from one host to another.
 * First I just copied all the wp/ files onto the new host.
 * Then I’ve done an “export” from the old site, creating an XML file that appears
   to contain all my content. (There are currently 15 posts and 12 comments, contained
   within 8 categories.)
 * I did install.php on the new host and got wp working. I was able to enable my
   theme and plugins without issue.
 * When I try and import the XML file only a small fraction of the content is actually
   moved:
 * There are currently 1 post and 2 comments, contained within 9 categories.
 * The import interface shows 10 items being imported, including a couple old drafts,
   but not including up to date content.
 * Seems the export/import is broken, I wanted to do things this way as I have to
   go through two third parties in order to do the manual database dump/import, 
   which is just going to take a long time. (to get them to do it)
 * I did try replacing all the old URLS in the XML file with the new ones for the
   new site, no difference.
 * Any help appreciated.

 * Always backup MySQL first, XML is secondary backup.
 * If first XML import doesn’t work, try and try again especially if you know that
   not all posts have been imported. There’s no harm in going through the import
   process — it will note posts which already have been imported and get the posts
   which are not in system yet.
