 * I have been using the auto update since it became available because of it’s convenience.

   After updating to version 3.4, I can no longer update my site because when I
   move the pointer over the index page, it highlights “TRASH” and results in a
   blank page. If anyone knows how to correct this problem, I would appreciate hearing
   from you.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.

 * Thanks for the response,esmi.
    The very first thing I did was to delete all plugins.
   It made no difference. I will try switching themes, but since I deleted all plugins
   they can not be the problem. Since my site has been working perfectly for years,
   I would suspect the latest update or perhaps a “buggy” Auto Updater. Will let
   you know more after the change of theme.

 * Because that is common sense to me.
    Changing the theme did not solve the problem.

 * I’m sorry but this is part of basic troubleshooting. I can assure you that a
   theme can cause all kinds of issues on a site – including major problems in a
   site’s back end. Switching to an **unedited** version of the default theme is
   the only way to rule your old theme out of the equation.
 * Another, more worrying, possibility, is that your site has been hacked. If you
   post your site’s url, we can try scanning it for signs of a hack.

 * OK. The site is oleanairport.org

 * The good news is that the scan is clean. The bad news is that you really do have
   to try switching to Twenty Eleven to rule out your current theme as the cause
   of your problems.

 * As I said three posts ago, I switched themes and it did not solve the problem.
   I tried TwentyTen at that time.
    Now I have switched to TwentyEleven, as you
   requested, with the same result. You can take a look and see what you think.

 * Is this problem in the back end of the site?

 * After logging in to the Dashboard and while editing pages, I move the mouse pointer
   over the page that I would like to edit. Four (4) choice words appear beneath
   the page name and one (1) of these is the word “trash” which should only be highlighted
   when the mouse pointer is over the word “trash”.
    Unfortunately, the word “trash”
   stays highlighted all of the time and when I click on the page title, the page
   is blank because the contents automatically go to the trash or some other secret
   place.

 * Trash is supposed to be a different colour than the other links. It’s red and
   the others are blue. so I think the highlight problem is most likely due to this,
   designed, link colouration. what happens if you try to click Quick Edit?

 * It makes no difference which of the four I click on.
    The result is the same,
   blank page.

 * Try re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from
   a **fresh** download of WordPress.

 * I have done that. Problem still there

 * I am web editor for two (2) organizations and also have a localhost wordpress
   site on my computer all with this same problem.
    If any wordpress expert can
   point me to the file where I can turn the “trash” option off, that would help
   immensely. Being able to edit my sites is more important to me than all the bells
   and whistles that screw everything up.
