# WordPress will not update

 * WordPress will not update automatically, or let me do it from the web interface
   at all.
 * I previously was on 4.2.2 and had the same issue. I manually did an update via
   SSH/FTP hoping that would fix this issue going forward and it didn’t.
 * Here’s a screenshot of the issue:

 * I got the “An automated wordpress update has failed to complete” error. Anytime
   I click on the “Please attempt the update again”, it just reloads the same page.
 * I could not find any “.maintenance” file in the Word Press root directory.
 * Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 * then try **MANUAL** updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file
   to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT
   the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete
   the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones.

 * Thank you for your reply. I did a manual update from 4.2.2 to 4.2.3. I don’t 
   want to do that each time.
 * However, I did actually SOLVE this issue. I’m not 100% sure which of these steps
   made it work, but here’s what I did:
 * 1) My site uses Cloudflare, so I cleared the cache on their control panel.
 * 2) I disabled the “W3 Total Cache”, “SEO Ultimate”, and “Wordfence Security” 
   plugins.
 * After doing those, I was able to update normally via the web interface. I wish
   I would have tried each one separately to know exactly which one worked, but 
   at least this way if any one else runs in to this, there are options.
