# WordPress.com Widgets and Themes

 * I recently installed WordPress 2.7 on our host. I’m totally new to the WordPress
   CMS, as I normally use [TYPOlight](http://typolight.org), but we needed a real
   blog. So I was surprised to see that a basic WordPress.org installation is missing
   many of the widgets found in the WordPress.com account. I know things like box.
   net don’t have to be included widgets, but surely the excellent “Authors” widget
   should make the cut of being a default widget.
 * Also, I’m surprised to find that many of the Themes available on WordPress.com
   are not available for WordPress.org, or else they are not updated to be compatible
   with 2.7. Themes like Redoable Lite, or Emire (to name only two of MANY). What’s
   the harm in offering downloads for all the WordPress.com themes? They’re kept
   up-to-date by the Automattic team. Let us use them!
 * **Basically my question is this: **
    Can I easily find the same themes and widgets
   used by WordPress.com somewhere? Why is it impossible (or so hard) to find these
   things when I know they exist for WordPress.com?

 * There’s a bunch of themes and plugins that you don’t get with a wordpress.com
   blog.

 * I know, but that’s just the point. Why can I get everything else but the themes
   and widgets included in WordPress.com?
 * Plus, maybe it’s just because I’m a newb, but I can’t figure out what plugins
   are actually for 2.7. There are some that appear to be for very old legacy versions
   of WordPress.

 * WordPress.com runs on WordPress MU. WordPress.com is owned and operated by the
   corporation Automattic so everything they do may not be available to the public.
 * Seems you can get the wordpress.com themes at:
    [http://svn.automattic.com/wpcom-themes/](http://svn.automattic.com/wpcom-themes/)
 * Many plugins may not say compatible with 2.7 but will work.

 * How do I get it to download as a file folder? As it is, I can only download each
   thing individually.

 * Ah, thanks.
 * I actually was able to pull the files off with CyberDuck FTP client. It appears
   to have worked perfectly.
 * Is there a similar repository for the Widgets used by WordPress.com?

 * Not sure what that author plugin does.
 * Consider downloading and installing [Otto’s php code widget](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/php-code-widget/).
 * Then put this in one of those widgets:

   post too.
 * I reviewed the PHP tags in the wp_list_authors article, but I couldn’t find a
   way to show the author’s Gravatar. Am I missing something?
