 * I have been trying to migrate a blog from wordpress.com to self-hosted for a
few months now. The XML file I download from wordpress.com is corrupt in some
way and it either doesn’t upload or uploads only part of the posts (just 2010)
and then somehow changes the “publish” button on new posts to “submit for review”
but you get an error even if you try and submit for review.
 * SOMEHOW (I really don’t know how or why), I got the XML file to upload correctly
to one of my test domains and I have tried exporting the XML file from there
and the same thing happens (although it does not cause any errors on my test
site) and if I use PHPmyAdmin to upload an SQL file from the database of my test
site, the posts ALL transfer but I still get the errors.
 * I am not very good with SQL, at all and I’ve seen a few tips for this and tried
them to the best of my abilities…without luck.
 * Does anyone have any advice?

 * How large is it?

 * It’s less than 1MB, I don’t think it’s appropriately exporting all of the posts
because if it did it should be larger than that. It’s definitely not a size issue.
She originally imported from Tumblr to WordPress.com and I think that’s where
the posts are getting messed up in the XML file…but I did get it to work on my
test site so I don’t understand.

 * Ah! How did that initial import go? was it 100% successful?

 * I don’t believe it did…I wasn’t part of that project but when I was searching
around for the problem, I saw where she had posted in the .com forum for problems,
LOL. Just as an extra piece of info, when I export from WOrdpress.com and import
into .org, if any posts go, it’s just the ones from 2010 and those are the tumblr
posts…but, it locks up the admins.

 * I think she needs to go back to the original Tumblr import. My guess is that
this introduced an error and she’s now only importing posts that were actually
   created via wordpress.com.

 * No, just the opposite, it’s only importing the posts created in TUmblr, she originally
imported from Tumblr to .com in 2010 so she has 2 years of .com posts that either
are corrupted somehow or another or the Tumblr posts are corrupted and not transferring
the others correctly. Even if I do it a little at a time…it seems to do the same
   thing.
 * What I find a little odd is that it’s fine on my test site…completely fine, all
the posts are there and no problems at all…I even did another import from February
through Now and that worked fine (that even messes with her site).
 * I was reading somewhere that the Tumblr posts might be post id’s that are too
high (like over 2 billion) in the database but I am not very good with the mySQL
at all and don’t’ know how to check or fix this. Any advice there?
 * Could it be a database problem? Hosting sites are different…different database
size? (between my test site and her site).
