 * Greetings,
 * While surfing I have activated links that bring up the following error, concerning
WordPress. I do not know what WordPress is, and know nothing about any database,
nor have any clue as to what a ‘wp-config.php’ file is,. I do know that my surfing
experience diminished, ever since these errors loaded instead of the pages I
intended to view, and I hope to resolve this issue with your help.
 * The error displays as follows:
 * “Error establishing a database connection
 * This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.
php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This
could mean your host’s database server is down.
 * * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that
you have typed the correct hostname? * Are you sure that the database server
   is running?
 * If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host.
If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.”
 * Gratefully,
    slowmotion

 * We cannot solve any “issues” for you.
    The sites you’ve visited, apparently,
are sites/blogs based on the WordPress software, but their database server is
down, or the site owners don’t know how to configure their site.
 * The free WordPress software is used by hundreds of thousands sites… and every
site-owner/webmaster is responsible for their own.
 * If that’s the only issue you have – please, don’t post here about your netsurfing
   adventures 🙂

 * Thanks.
 * I wasn’t sure what was going on, that’s why I asked. Don’t know anything about
this stuff so I wanted to find out why the blog site kept giving me this error.
The way it was worded made me wonder if it was my machine.
 * Thanks again, won’t bother you about it any more.

 * Best bet would be to drop the site admins a note when you see those. Odds are,
they may not be aware their server has issues.

 * I recently (less than 3 days ago) upgraded from version 1.5.1 to 2.0.5 of wordpress.
I have my wordpress files not in my main directory but in subdirectory so the
site is playahata.com but the path directly to the blog is playahata.com/hatablog/.
The upgrade went pretty smoothly and since then I have logged in and made a post
or two. However, I noticed I am getting a error message as if a page is missing
or cannot be found/loaded. This happens when I first login. On IE6 (never upgraded
to IE7) I get some variation of the 404 page not found message after I login
insead of the welcome page/dashboard. On firefox I get what i suppose is their
version of the 404 page. It says:
    “The document has moved here.
 * Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying
to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
 * In the above message on Firefox “here” is a hyperlink and the path is [http://www.playahata.com/hatablog/wp-login.php](http://www.playahata.com/hatablog/wp-login.php).
When I go directly to this location on IE or Firefox I get the logging page as
expected most times but once I login i get the page not found message on both
browsers. It seems the login has gone through however because I often get the
dashboard/login page once after I reload my browser. The errors seem to be related
to the ./hatablog/wp-admin/post.php file. Has anyone else been having a similar
issue? Is this my pop-up blocker or some form of internet security settings preventing
this page from showing? Did I forget to upload a page? Or is it because my files
are in a subdirectory? Any ideas?
 * Also when editing/writing a post there are essentially 3 sections on the screen.
The post itself, another middle section, and then the preview section that shows
what you’re post is going to look like. I noticed the middle section shows this
404 page not found message also in IE. Thanks for any help

 * Was this post move here? I could have sworn I created a new thread. In any case
I don’t think I have the same issue as slowmotion.
    This error is happening all
times a day and from different machines, I don’t think there is actually a database
problem. Also outside of this issue my site is working correctly. For instance
I can login. Once the login goes through I get this message about the loading
of the page failing. If I hit the ‘Back’ button or go directly to the blog, then
I see the “Edit This’ link on my post. If I click on this link I can get into
the post and edit it and save it or create a new post. Once I hit the publish
button it does through like it’s about to post but then I get the message about
it failing to load/find the page. If I then directed the browser directly to
the blog I would see that last post that I never got the confirmation page for.
Any ideas why this might be happening? Please any help out or suggestions out
   there?

 * I’m not seeing the issues. Perhaps you simply need to dump your browser caches.

 * What exactly do you mean when you say you’re not seeing the issue? You mean nobody
else has reported the same kind of problem or was my explanation of the problem
unclear? I tried dumping the cache, etc on IE and Firefox and besides I don’t
think it’s that because this happens on my home as well as work PC. Realistically
speaking I don’t think my webhost could actually be having this many errors especially
since the site is fully accessible. I’m wondering if I didn’t upload a file from
the wp-admin/ directory properly but I checked and they match the files I downloaded,
yet whenere I have this error the path showing on the top of the screen is: [http://playahata.com/hatablog/wp-admin/post.php](http://playahata.com/hatablog/wp-admin/post.php).
   Any other suggestions?

 * Looks like you need the wp tuneup plugin from [http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2006/10/28/some-wordpress-205-users-reporting-server-500-error/#comment-5826](http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2006/10/28/some-wordpress-205-users-reporting-server-500-error/#comment-5826)–
that’s a link to the discussion of the problem, and includes a download link.

 * And by the way i meant to start this as it’s own thread. I wasn’t trying to highjack
the guys question. Especially since I don’t think our problems are at all related
