# wp-activate. php not found error

 * Hi,
 * I just installed my multisite and was trying to test the registration process.
   When I click the confirm link I get an error that says:
 * **“Not Found
    The requested URL /wp-activate.php was not found on this server.
   Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument
   to handle the request.”
 * Now.. the funny thing is that the file is on the server and I am able to go in
   as if to edit the file.
 * Is there a way to trouble shoot?

 * wp-activate.php is a WP core file located in the root of your WP installation.
 * If this file is missing, then it may be that your installation is incomplete.
 * Try **MANUALLY** updating. [Download WordPress](https://wordpress.org/download/)
   again and unzip it. Access your server via [SFTP or FTP](https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients),
   or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting
   provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your
   copies of everything on the server **except** the wp-config.php file and the /
   wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively
   replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Please
   read the [Manual Update](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)
   directions first.
 * **Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your
   database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.
   You can never have enough backups! **

 * hi,
 * I did what you suggested. Thanks by the way. But now that error is on my user’s
   side. Plus, I deactivated some plugins to see if there was a conflict. There 
   was non. I still get a 404 Error. I don’t have a robots.txt file either. does
   that effect the site?
