# WP doesn’t recognize theme update

 * Hi,
    I run a WP installation with Elegent Theme’s Extra theme. I have the newest
   WP version and don’t use a child theme, but customized the default theme slightly
   in php-files and via Simple CSS plugin. The site is working fine, but about one
   month ago, around the WP update to 4.6 my installation stopped to show me updates
   for the theme. I can update all plugins via dashboard, but WP simply does not
   indicate that there would be a new upate of the theme. I manually updated the
   theme via FTP, but no change. Again – the next theme update (published one day
   after the manual update) was not indicated in the dashboard. I just says, “the
   theme is up to date”. If I didn’t look up in the changelog of the theme, i didn’t
   even know, that it was changed. Again, the site is running as it is supposed 
   to. A few other theme users had the same issue, but no general solution was provided
   so far, no one from Elegant Themes seems to see a general problem in this issue.
   Do you have any idea, what that might be? Maybe my WP installation was corrupted?

 * I’m sorry but as you appear to be using a commercial theme, you need to seek 
   support from the theme’s developer/vendor. We do not have access to, nor do we
   support, [commercial products](https://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#Commercial_Products)
   here. Your best bet is always your product’s developer, so we encourage you to
   use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues
   with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

 * Okay, thank you, I see.
    I just wanted to ask here, if this would be an issue
   with the WP installation, not necessarily caused by the theme itself. But, of
   course, I will stick to the issue in the ET’s forum.

 * Were you aware that only themes that are downloaded from wordpress.org are part
   of the default theme update checks that are run here? Do Elegant Themes even 
   have their own update check system in place?

 * Hi, I don’t know by whom the check is realized, but I am using the Extra theme
   for almost a year now, and it always got the report for an update, but not since
   WP 4.6 (although I don’t know if this is the reason for the issue).
