Do we have a list of best practices with using Wp rocket & SG Optimizer together? What settings should we use in SG optimizer and what should we use in WP rocket?

For whatever reason Memcached keeps getting shut off in the sg optimizer plugin. Saves it and it’s on, load a page and gets shut off.

I’d love to see multiple pictures with all the settings for each one so they play well together.

@ravetildon the WP Rocket article is old. I do not recommend using both plugins. The SG Optimizer now has everything you need to optimize your website and achieve top performance from it. WP Rocket is ok on a generic host but it doesn’t make sense using it with the SG Optimizer because optimization plugins tend to “touch” everything in your loading process and you’re just adding overhead. Generally, if you’re on SiteGround I would recommend using only the SG Optimizer.

    All:

Great info here. We will continue to use both SG Optimizer and WP Rocket until SG Optimizer offers the same features as WP Rocket.

Our website loads a lot faster using both plugins (with a few tweaks made to prevent features from overlapping).

    Notes:

    (1) WP Rocket’s minification features work better than SG Optmizer’s. Using WP Rocket, the number of website HTTP calls is 32. Using SG Optimizer, the number of website HTTP calls jumps to 128 thus impacting our website loading time.

    (2) It would have been nice if SG had spent their time and resources to add more features like those offered WP Rocket instead of providing the new “Performance Test” feature. Why add this speed check feature when it’s available using Google PageSpeed directly? Unnecessary bloatware.

I am ready to shoot myself… I have spent hours trying to get this to work… Trouble ticket after trouble ticket… No one wants to take charge and fix it…

Site ground says they do some kind of reset and my site works… Then an hour or two later caching is broke again…

I get this lovely message and load time of 26 seconds..

    Object Cache

    94.8% hit rate (4,419 hits, 244 misses)

External object cache not in use

The Memcached extension for PHP is installed but is not in use by WordPress

Opcode cache in use: Zend OPcache

No other caching plugins installed. It also keeps turnign off the memcached button on the plugin. But even if I turn the button back on I still see no object cache…

Got these same scores… We should be able to do better

SG Optimizer = best score on Google (about 35% for mobile and 85% for desktop for a very very long blog post).

I wouldn’t say there are best practices in using both together. Use only SG Optimizer to avoid such problems caused by the next WP Rocket udpate.

    @hristo-sg,

Using SG Optimizer and WP Rocket (simultaneously) provides the best website performance results provided plugin optimization features do not overlap.

See below for test conditions and results. Tests and results per webpagetest.org (3 runs in each case). Cloudflare activated in all cases. Cache cleared before each test.

    (1) Only SG Optimizer Activated: Website fully loaded in 1.74 seconds; 112 HTTP requests. Click here.

    (2) Only WP Rocket Activated: Website fully loaded in 1.38 seconds; 31 HTTP requests. Click here.

    (3) Both SG Optimizer and WP Rocket Activated: Website fully loaded in 1.30 seconds; 31 HTTP requests. Click here.

    Opinions confuse, facts convince.

    Be safe. Cheers!

This is because WP Rocket is stopping the Optimizer from working. Again, we’re about to release an update with JS Combination shortly taht you can enable so that will affect a lot of sites in a very good way. Everything else may “work” to a degree but we don’t have control over what WPR are doing and if not their next update won’t stop all your caches from working causing the account to overload for example.

As I said above…I DO NOT have any other plugins installed.. Only SG optimizer. You did the complete install. It works for an hour. Then memcached shuts off and I get this message along with horrible load time. You have done it about 6 times now. Same thing keep happening.:

    Object Cache

    94.8% hit rate (4,419 hits, 244 misses)

External object cache not in use

The Memcached extension for PHP is installed but is not in use by WordPress

Opcode cache in use: Zend OPcache

    @hristo-sg,

Thank you. We like SG Optimizer, but will continue to use the plugin(s) that offer the best results.

We look forward to SG’s full deployment of:

    (1) WebP optimization (not available for those who don’t have the new Site Tools. SG has been advertising this on our dashboard for 6 months. Still nothing. SG OpsEng and Developers cannot provide a timeline (based on ticket response). Why not? If SG has not considered this, a Project Engineer can help establish a reliable target date.)

    (2) Effective Lazy-loading of images (currently, SG Optimizer does not work well with the Avada theme. WP Rocket does.)

    (3) Automatic recognition of other Cache Plugins and provide optimization recommendations (WP Rocket does.)

By the way, in reference to your comment above, WP Rocket is not stopping SG Optimizer from working. WP Rocket alone seems to work better than SG Optimizer. See results posted above.

Oh well, we’ll continue to test our options and select the ones that work best for us.

    Again, thank you. Be safe!

Still trying to get this resolved… Playing with options…

    Thread Starter ravetildon

    (@ravetildon)

ok so far enabled EVERYTHING in wp-rocket

Disabled everything in SG Optimizer EXCEPT in supercacher settings… Enabled Dynamic Caching & Memcached.

my CPU Time Usage & Account Executions dropped by over 50% with this setup.

With only SG Optimizer installed all options enabled CPU Time Usage & Account Executions were double. So not sure what the issue is but it’s a BIG difference… Almost 4 times less the number of requests…

Almost got my hosting shut down. Went way over my limits. Now I’m back to almost normal…

Again, I do not recommend using WP Rocket and SG Optimizer together. On SiteGround servers use just SG Optimizer πŸ™‚

@ravetildon WP Rocket was exact reason for your issues and specifically the .htaccess stuff they pour which blocks our caching from operating properly.
