# WP server connection type

 * Hi, is there a way to change how WP is connecting to server.
    If I want to update
   theme or plugin or whatever, I am asked for credentials, so I write it, but WP
   can not connect. Login details are correct since I can connect to FTP.
 * Look at screen shoot please.
    For server connection I use SFTP protocol on some
   other port.

 * it seems your server does not support normal FTP connections, to stop it asking
   for credentials give [http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Automatic_Update](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Automatic_Update)
   a read, as it helps with setting permissions correct for your site (Which is 
   what is going on when it needs to ask for credentials like this).
 * If you wish to keep t he current setup, but use SFTP instead, you could add a
   plugin like [https://wordpress.org/plugins/ssh-sftp-updater-support/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/ssh-sftp-updater-support/)
   for example (there are ways to enable it manually as well, but a plugin is much
   simpler to get up and running)
