I’m using Duplicator Lite to backup my wordpress site, not to migrate it.

My question is: Once I create a backup and download the package (backup ZIP file plus installer.php), can I delete the contents of the “wp-snapshots” sub-directory on the web server, or do those files need to remain there?

    Thanks! 🙂

  • As long as you have another copy of them somewhere else you won’t need the original copy in the wp-snapshots directory.

    Hope that helps~

    Hey Cory,

Thank you very much for your reply! 🙂

Further question: are those files bundled into the ZIP file portion of the Backup Package already, or should I also download and archive them?

Based on your backup settings (Step 1 Setup) it will depend on what is included in the archive file. If you don’t create any filters then it will contain all of your WP files in the root of your WP site, a copy of the database and a copy of the installer…

    Cheers~

    Hey Cory,

    Thanks again! 🙂

I did not filter out any files, everything should have been archived.

Sorry to be a bother, but just want to make sure I understand correctly…

The files I have downloaded and archived off my web server are *_archive.zip and installer.php, and I did not filter out anything when performing the backup with Duplicator. Besides those files (*_archive.zip and installer.php), the following files reside under wp-snapshots on the web server:
    – *.log
    – *_database.sql
    – *_scan.json
    – dtoken.php
    – index.php
    – robots.txt

Since I have archived off-site the *_archive.zip and installer.php files, can I delete all the files on the web server under the wp-snapshots sub-dir, or should I also download and archive the 6 files listed above before deleting them?

Again, sorry to be a bother, and thank you very much for your very valuable time! 🙂

Yep, all you need for the fullback is the archive.zip file you can remove the rest…

    HI

I have a similar question, My Duplicator backup plugin isn’t working properly and won’t finish the backup.

Therefore I am backing up all filesfrom Cpanel.

I have copied everything under the Snapshots directory via FTP also separately.

Can I now remove everything in the Snapshots directory after copying only that whole directory ?

I need to get some more space on the server as the Server people are saying my backup with Duplicator is not finishing because they think the file is too big.

And there is 64GB of info in there.

I am designing a new site for a client, but my Backupbuddy and Duplicator will not finish the backup and I am guessing it is because the filesize may be too big.

Therefore removing things in the Snapshots was my idea to reduce the filesize and see if the backups will work properly afterwards.

    Thanks
    Kristin
