# “WP Statistics needs a quick update”

 * Hello there,
 * I use the 14.15.4 version of the plugin. On my plugins page it shows that this
   is the latest version of the plugin and no update is needed. However, when I 
   click on the statistic button on my backends sidebar, the following message is
   displayed:
   “**WP Statistics needs a quick update:** Run this brief update to 
   keep your stats accurate.”It presents me an “update now” button with this message.
   Is this legit? I just want to make sure it is not some kind of hack or scam by
   a third party.

 * The message you see is completely **legitimate and safe**. Here’s why it appears:
    - The plugin has detected that a **small database update** is required.
    - This update is necessary to **keep your statistics accurate**.
    - Only **administrators** of the site can see this notice.
 * You can safely click the **“Update Now”** button; it’s part of the WP Statistics
   plugin itself and not a scam or third-party injection.
