 * My site started loading very slowly and I noticed that “waiting for pixel.wp.
   com” showed up in the bottom left hand corner of Firefox.
    Sometimes it “waits”
   for this site for a very long time.
 * Can someone explain why a WordPress theme would be accessing this address?
    The
   theme I use is ” Customizer”.
 * Thanks
 * Mike

 * I have the same problem with 2012 theme, using W7, Firefox 64 bit, latest versions
   for all software and plugins.

 * I have found that the Jetpack plugin causes some problems.
    Tech support from
   them said that pixel.wp relates to Jetpack’s modules. They let me know the following
   which you can check your site with to see what is loading or casuing problems:
   open the inspector in Firefox and head to the “Network” Section [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Page_Inspector/How_to/Open_the_Inspector](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Page_Inspector/How_to/Open_the_Inspector)
 * I still have the same problem at different times and I have turned off most of
   the Jetpack modules especially the “Stats”.

 * Using the Inspector feature in Firefox to view Network activity, I see that when
   trying to GET a file named boom.gif from pixel.wp.com it repeatedly gets a status
   of 204, “No Content”. It previously does a GET of file g.gif from pixel.wp.com
   successfully, which is a tiny 6×5 smiley face. Jetpack is enabled.
 * I will try turning off some Jetpack modules. I had problems last month with Jetpack
   causing white screen, fixed by version 4.02.

 * Problem solved. I first deactivated Jetpack but that did not solve the problem.
   I then noticed in Windows Task Manager that Firefox was consuming a high % of
   CPU time. I closed Firefox and rebooted my computer for a fresh start.
 * I logged back into my WordPress site and tried to re-activate Jetpack, but I
   got an error: Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: token_http_request_failed.
   This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
 * I searched Google for a solution to this error, and it required installing the
   Core Control plugin and temporarily under ‘Manage Transports’ finding ‘cURL’
   and clicking ‘Disable Transport’. Then activate Jetpack and operation is fast
   and normal again. Then in Core Control, re-Enable Transport for cURL.
 * I followed the instructions at [http://www.tpateman.co.uk/reboot/error-activating-jetpack-plugin/](http://www.tpateman.co.uk/reboot/error-activating-jetpack-plugin/)
   Be careful using Core Control.

 * Because Firefox sometimes ends up in a state consuming a high % of CPU time,
   I have switched to the Chrome browser and have not seen this problem since.

 * Thanks Mountain-Hiker – had same problem with a big delay. I did the tests like
   you suggets and got same results regarding boom.gif etc. Does this means now
   that you run Jetpack wihout delays?

 * Yes, I run Jetpack with no problems. Because of the high CPU problems I saw from
   time to time with Firefox, I have switched to Chrome.

 * thanks for reply – well from my side it seems that browser its not the problem.
   On my site there is a team of 6 ppl working on it with different browsers – all
   seem to have the same problem regarding “waiting for pixel.wp.com” delay…

 * Have you tried deactivating plugins one by one or another theme to isolate the
   problem?
 * By the way, I have Site Stats turned off in JetPack. Several other forums mention
   that as a problem. I use WP Slimstat Analytics plugin for stats.
