Wrong Category Paths

    Hi there!

    I just figured out that Google Webmaster Tools shows lots of error messages. They come from wrong category names e.g. “example.com/android” instead of “example.com/category/android” (see here: http://mobiwatch.de/category-sitemap.xml)

    In addition, there’s a problem when I’m trying to add a category to my menu navigation (via “Design – Menues – Categories – Add to Menue), these links also say “example.com/android” (without the “category” in it’s path). But those pages or urls aren’t existing …

    I left the WordPress setting by default, just switched in “permalinks” the post links to “example.com/postname”, that’s all. The field “Category Basis” is left blank.

    I really hope somebody can help me with that because I don’t have a clue wthat to do!

    Your ‘wrong’ category URLs do work. For example, the blackberry category at “http://mobiwatch.de/blackberry/” is full of posts about blackberry phones, and if you check the HTML source you can see that it is loading from a category template.

    Your “http://mobiwatch.de/category/*” URLs work too, in a sense. You have a 301 redirect from those URLs to the URLs without the ‘category’ part. That is, from “http://mobiwatch.de/category/blackberry/” to “http://mobiwatch.de/blackberry/”

    If all you did was click the “Post Name” radio button at wp-admin->Settings->Permalinks then something else is causing this– a plugin or something in your theme.

    Is this a new install or an old site?

    @s_ha_dum Thanks, but in the meantime I found a plugin that cancelles all appeareances of “/category” – that’s why now appearing posts e.g. in “…/blackberry” (without “category”). Earlier there was always a 404 error ..
