 * if i write my own index.php, bypassing the use of templates,
    can i specify the
   HTML 4.01 strict DTD?
 * or is there some reason the pages are validated against XHTML?

 * You can do HTML 4.01 if you wish, it’s all up to you and what you put in your
   template. XHTML is just the latest and best in most people’s opinions.
