Yoast Plugin Breaks Avada Categories
-
When I have the Yoast Plugin enabled, the category pages in Avada do not work. We have turned off all other plugins and Yoast is the conflicting plugin that is causing the issue. Here is a video documenting the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFf_CtLbU4g

Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.3.2? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/
Also, can you please confirm that the version of Avada is the most current? If you have already confirmed that both Yoast SEO, Avada, and WordPress are up to date and the issue is still occurring, we would next recommend checking for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.Hey @devnihil.
The WordPress version is 5.3.2. The version of Avada is 6.1.2 – the most recent version of Avada released, with all patches done and up to date.
There are also no JavaScript errors on the site. I checked on the broken category pages, as well as the page where the Category widget is on, and in the backend.
Hi,
While we had difficulty adding the Category widget to the Blog page with Avada, we did add it to the footer. See image: https://pasteboard.co/IT8aeKM.png.
When we did that we were able to click on the categories and the page loaded. See image: https://pasteboard.co/IT8at3y.png. This was done with Yoast SEO v12.9.1, Avada v6.1.2, Fusion Core v4.1.2 and Fusion Builder v2.1.2.
If you were to briefly move the categories to the footer, do they still fail to load?
If so, that sounds like a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please Check for conflicts.
If there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.
If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.
We added them to the footer and they still do the same thing – a blank page: http://deloatchlaw.com
I have checked for Conflicts using the Health Check Plugin and it shows everything is fine. http://deloatchlaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Screen-Shot-2020-02-04-at-10.32.28-AM.png
Installing the Health Check plugin does not automatically check for conflicts. Please use the troubleshooting (tab) in the Health Check plugin. This will deactivate all plugins and switch to a default theme for your logged in user only. Your site visitors will continue to see the site as normal.
BEFORE USING THE HEALTH CHECK PLUGIN, it is important to understand that a white screen almost always means a server error. If your web host provides you with access to your server error log, this will contain the exact error which normally can help identify the cause of the white screen. Please contact your web host and ask them to review your server error log. This might save you a lot of time in the long run. If your web host doesn’t provide access to the server error log, continue with the steps below.
Once in the troubleshooting mode, activate only Yoast SEO and Avada to see if the categories show up correctly. If they appear in this limited setup, activate one plugin at a time while checking to see if the categories continue to show correctly. When the issue reappears, the last plugin you activated is likely conflicting with something active.
Disable and re-enable troubleshooting mode. This time start with Yoast SEO, Avada and the potentially conflicting plugin. If the categories appear with only these three items, activate plugins one at a time again. Keep repeating this process until you locate the plugin or minimum environment that causes the categories to not show.
We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
