I’ve been able to get cached pages of about half of the old posts we wanted. This means we will have to do new photography, but at least we have the content. Some of the important posts aren’t cached, though. I can find snippets when I do a Google search for those specific pages, but they are not cached. The odd thing is that the cached pages were saved in March and April of this very year. So if a snapshot of the pages were saved so recently, why can’t I get on them now?

Perhaps it is connected to the fact that we switched from Volusion to our new host around May 1st? We still have an A record connected to our Volusion account for the blog. Not sure if that affects anything.

Well, according to Volusion, it isn’t them.

Someone else owns our old domain now. I’m wondering—if we could buy it back, would we be able to put in our old login URL? Or would things be messed up because of nameservers or whatever all? Just wondering if it’s worth looking into buying it back.

I called GoDaddy, and they looked into the old URL. They said that domain was never with them until this spring, so we must have had that domain hosted with someone else. I wonder if we had it through Volusion or something.

That web archive page would be very helpful if it had the posts we wanted, but it doesn’t. I went to look at the other saved archives, and they all brought me back to that same Elderberry page, no matter which date I clicked on. And it only allows me to go back to page 3. So clearly the only way to get our posts back is to be able to log in to WordPress.

Is there no way to get into a WordPress site when a domain name is no longer active? Is it dependent on the domain, the hosting, or something else? Why can’t we just have an account with ww.wp.xz.cn that allows us to log in to see the pages we have worked on?

I contacted Volusion, and they said:

“It’s possible to connect the blog to your Volusion store, but that’s only for the domain name, it doesn’t include the actual data of the blog itself, as that would still be with the blog hosting company.”

So what is the alternative login information for WordPress when one no longer has the original domain?

Where would we have those WordPress files? We can’t get into them. We never backed them up; the only way we ever accessed our blog was through our old URL /wp-admin.php.

GoDaddy has been our domain host, but Volusion was our website host. Perhaps that’s what you’re thinking of as far as contacting our hosting? We are no longer with Volusion…

There MUST be some way to get into our WordPress account without the original login URL. Surely WordPress doesn’t just delete one’s entire account and posts after the original URL expires? Is there an alternative way to log in?

My hosting panel meaning GoDaddy? I can’t get to phpMyAdmin. If I look on this help page (https://www.godaddy.com/help/open-phpmyadmin-24573) and go to where it tells me, there’s no such thing. If I go into My Hosting, it tells me “You haven’t created a site” under Managed WordPress. The thing is, we no longer have the domain that we used to use for our WordPress blog.
