The original problem was that the links didn’t produce the popup window on mobile, only sometimes and only on some mobile devices.
Your solution cache_table_output=false did work after all and solve the issue, so cheers for that!
It turns out that the tags had been somehow auto-generated and I hadn’t spotted them, resulting in some confusion.

If you happen to have any insight as to why an image link doesn’t seem to be clickable on all mobiles that would be great. Which was my original issue.
