This is Broken with WP 5.0, that fix did work for me.
I’m seeing the same thing on 4.3 on my sites now. There was a bug in “SSH SFTP update support” plugin for a while, so I moved away from that, just tried installing it again and that fixes this issue again.
Newest release, seeing the same thing, “Private Key Incorrect” downgraded to older version and it works. What can we send to help debug?
Only error I see is ” PHP Notice: Undefined variable: allow_relaxed_file_ownership in /home/html/wp-content/plugins/ssh-sftp-updater-support/sftp.php on line 37″

Thanks vavroom, that’s what I have been doing, but it’s still a PITA.
It seems like something that could be easily scripted, I just don’t have the skills to do that at this point.
