    Hi dthaete88,

I am happy to try and help if I can, however I just received notice of your issue 5 minutes ago. I appreciate if you could allow me a little more time before I get a chance to respond.

As an FYI for you and in case other users encounter this in the future, here is a summary of the situation and what you can do about it…

This issue is the result of page caching.

If you are using wpengine (or a different host that auto-caches) you can try reaching out and ask if they can clear your cache for you.

Also if you are using a caching plugin, try clearing the site cache via the plugin settings page.

Some times it takes a few hours after users take the above steps to notice the change. In this case, you should also clear your browser cache (though clearing your browser cache would only be effective after taking the above steps)

If you like extra help with clearing the cache on your site, please feel free to message me direct justin[at]clevelandwebdeveloper[dot]com and I can try and provide further assistance.

    Best,
    Justin

    Hi emmanuelgee,

As far as I know, pdf files are not intended to work as background images, so this is likely the cause of the problem. One idea would be to first convert the pdf to an image and then use that image file as the background.

    Hi Webinclusion1,

When I checked your site just now, it seems the problem has already cleared up for you. But just as an FYI for you and in case other users encounter this in the future, here is a summary of the situation and what you can do about it…

    Hi Judtaylor,

That thread was directed at someone who has a site such as http://www.mysite.com but some of the links on their site go to http://mysite.com (without the www)

Because the two domains (http://www.mysite.com vs http://mysite.com) are different, they are treated like two completely distinct sites, and visitors will have to login to both sites in order to have access to all the pages. The solution for this is to be consistent on all your pages and links – in other words all of the pages on your site should either have www at the beginning or not.

So long as all the page URLs on your site begin with http://100.1.100.1/~softwxr7 and all of the links on your site go to URLs beginning with http://100.1.100.1/~softwxr7, you should be fine.

Assuming that this is not your problem, you could very likely be experiencing a caching issue. If you are using a caching plugin, or your host is auto-caching for you, feel free to message me direct for further assistance via info[at]clevelandwebdeveloper[dot]com

    Hi Webtintin,

It sounds like there might be a caching conflict. A couple questions to see if this is the case…

    1. Do you happen to be using WP Engine as your web host? WP Engine auto enables page caching on all their sites. If not, do you know if your web host applies any auto-caching features to their sites?

    2. Do you know if you are using a caching plugin on the site (these plugins conflict with Hide My Site)? If so, try deactivating the caching plugin and see if that resolves it. Note that deactivating a caching plugin does not always purge the cache. Before you deactivate the caching plugin, first go to the plugin admin page and turn off caching from there.

Please feel free to message me directly if you need further assistance via info[at]clevelandwebdeveloper[dot]com

    Hi Hestaer,

When the “ip addresses” box is empty, it will show “22.231.113.64,72.231.113.64” in gray as a placeholder. This is just to give you a sense for how you might add multiple ip addresses – these ips aren’t actually allowed access to your site.

    Hi Timur,

    Thanks for your input.

-I am not familiar with the Squid proxy so I can’t say whether there are any issues.

-Regarding the ip ranges, Right now that isn’t a feature but it’s a good idea. If I am able to add the ability I will let you know.

-As of now, you should be able to whitelist specific IPs using the “Allow IP Addresses” field (Settings > Hide My Site > General > Allow IP Addresses). Multiple IPs can be listed in a comma seperated list, make sure there is no space after the commas. For example if you had the IPs 69.89.31.226 and 70.89.31.226 you would enter them like this: 69.89.31.226,70.89.31.226

The issue is caused by logging into the site using the www domain but then if the links on the site don’t have the www, the non www pages are considered like a completely different site, and users end up having to log in again on the non www version of the site.

Suggestion for how to fix this:
Try adding the www to the Site Address (URL) setting in WP admin > Settings >General

    Hope it helps,
    Justin

    Hi JohnnykManx,

I have noticed this issue before using Jetpack email notifications. It turns out this is a well-known problem with Jetpack, in which shortcodes are not stripped out of email notifications and also this affects the Publicize module.

They haven’t put out a fix for it yet. You can read more about it here: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/869

    Hi Aeve,

    Nice to hear from you.

Glad you were able to get it working. The plugin is compatible with version 4.6.1 – I just need to mark it as such in the plugin code.

I don’t know of any way to remove the spacer code from a post without editing the post.

    Hi Leeloo,

This is a good idea. If I am able to add the feature I will follow up here.

    Thanks,

This issue should now be resolved.

You can now whitelist specific IPs using the “Allow IP Addresses” field (Settings > Hide My Site > General > Allow IP Addresses). Multiple IPs can be listed in a comma seperated list, but make sure there is no space after the commas. For example if you had the IPs 69.89.31.226 and 70.89.31.226 you would enter them like this: 69.89.31.226,70.89.31.226

IP addresses listed here will be granted access, whereas everyone else will see the password login screen. If it’s still not working after trying the above there might be another problem at play on your site, for example a caching issue.
