If you are getting an error, the best way to find out what it is, is to view your error logs.
The best thing to do is enable WP_DEBUG (show errors and logging) – https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/WP_DEBUG
If you do not get any more information from this 500 page (or in your new error log file), then you need to contact your webhost and ask them for the error log for this (it may be available to view in your webhost admin area).
Once you can view the issue, then we can figure out where the problem is coming from exactly – please let me know the results.

Thanks for this info, so are you saying when the button gets inserted in the classic editor block, its not inserting the quotation marks properly, and therefor breaking the link?

I’m a little confused.
Search & Filter doesn’t have any kind of wizard interface (either free or pro, pro does have a search form settings screen though) and neither modifies the content of any of your posts.
Disabling the plugin means that there is nothing left interfering with your site whatsoever, it doesn’t install to other locations, or leave code running when its disabled, so its slightly confusing to say the least.
Is it possible you might be getting us confused with another plugin?

I’m supporting the plugin in terms of providing updates and fixes, however, I don’t have time to manage the support forums properly (I skim for bugs often).
In regards to your request, there is no way currently to set a default template. It is a nice idea and is surely something I’ll add in the future.
In terms of timelines, it wouldn’t be for a while, as I’m waiting for Gutenberg to finalise its APIs before doing the next major developments.

Haha thanks 🙂 We will see. Currently Gutenberg does not support extending core blocks (I want to add FASC to the paragraph block).. But for now, I have integrated FASC into a custom block and the code is working fine.
Now we are just waiting for the APIs for extending core blocks to be updated and I can port over the custom block code 🙂

Unfortunately, the problem with fixing this issue is most users’ who have it, either move on or don’t get back to me – so we’re in limbo at the moment in terms of making any progress with this – your help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve just released a new version with a fix for this.
It is the strangest thing, I used a JavaScript syntax highlighter (overkill) just for making some things red in the shortcodes in the admin pages.
What I didn’t realise (and not sure when it made a difference) is that around some shortcode examples it was adding
<span>-s. Copying and pasting into the wp editor caused our shortcodes to break (you can see this html view)…Anyway, that’s now been fixed.
Let me know if this problem persists (and make sure to clear your cache before trying to copy & paste again)
