Could you try it on the latest version of Google Chrome once? Although WP-Paint fully supports the latest Firefox versions, it is best that we reduce the number of variables.
Could you please disable WP Fastest Cache and try? I think that it is definitely a cache related issue as we haven’t had this issue crop back since version 0.4.0.
Please try clearing both browser cache as well as the CDN cache if you are using something like CloudFlare.
@dietredthunder Could you please clear your CDN cache (if any) and try again. The specific issue is already resolved as of version 0.4.0.

This will keep the base image layer size constant and change the Canvas size.

The problem with making WP Paint for generic images inside folders is maintaining revisions and other meta-information which is handled already by the WP Media Library. We are planning to release a standalone version of WP Paint which can edit images in any directory in the near future. Such a tool could be useful for your use case I guess.

This specific functionality can be easily achieved with the “Media Sync” plugin https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/media-sync/ . Although, I haven’t tried it, its feature set seems to support the exact functionality which can help you achieve your requirement. Please do try it and let me know how it goes.

Yes WP Paint can edit non-animated gifs and pngs.
2. and is there a way to edit files in /uploads/subfolders..?
WP Paint is designed to edit images in WordPress Media. You can use other plugins to import/sync files in your sub-folders to WordPress Media.
