    Hi Boas,

Thank you for trying out Post Notif and for the kind words; I appreciate it!

The categories are not presently visible on the subscription widget simply as a design decision to keep the widget small and minimize the work for the subscriber to complete the form.

With regards to the post categories being available for the subscriber to select on the confirmation page, that is existing functionality. Have you confirmed, in your settings (Settings >> Post Notif) that you are making categories available to subscribers? If so, they should be visible and selectable, by the subscriber when they confirm their subscription.

    Thanks,
    Devon

    Hi Boas,

You are right, and unfortunately there is little I can do, from my end, to ensure that all themes (including those released several years back), will work smoothly with Post Notif.

As I mentioned above, for the next major release, I will be seriously considering moving to the use of standard pages for the confirmation/preferences pages, in the hope that this will alleviate a larger chunk of theme-related issues people have reported.

But, in the meantime, if you wish to both stay with Twenty Thirteen and continue to use Post Notif, I would encourage you to edit the necessary template files as I described above, replacing the hardcoding of comments_template to true with the conditional.

    Thanks,
    Devon

    Hi Dan,

I did some experimenting and was able to include an image tag (including height and width properties), referencing an image in my Media Library, in the post notification email body, so I’m curious why it wasn’t working for you, prior to my suggestion to consider using @@featuredimage .

Post Notif’s emails are all HTML format as currently implemented (because I wanted to ensure that URLs came through, email clients permitting), so I am crossing my fingers that with some fiddling with your template you’d be able to avoid using both @@featuredimage and the additional plugin you installed.

Or perhaps you’re satisfied with the solution you’ve come up with, which is fine too. 🙂

    Thanks,
    Devon

    Hi Maureen,

I am glad to hear you’ve found a workaround for now and I appreciate you sharing it.

I am actively planning to add shortcode functionality soon, though I’m struggling a bit with nailing down what exactly it should do. It is clear from your description, as well as others’ requests, that it needs to serve as an alternative to the subscription widget but what all it needs to offer in the way of configuration options is still taking shape. If there are specific options you’d like to see it include, please do let me know.

    Thanks,
    Devon

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for posting the details of the workaround you put in place for this situation.

If you feel this could be handled better directly in Post Notif I am open to it; I just need to figure out how best to implement it to provide sufficient flexibility without introducing any security issues. Let’s keep discussing this.

    Thanks,
    Devon

    Hi Dan,

I released Post Notif 1.1.3 this morning, which should get you off the beta version of the plugin once you have a chance to apply the update.

Thank you for all the time you devoted to testing the various iterations of the new functionality; your feedback was exceptionally helpful and I sincerely appreciate it!

    Thanks,
    Devon

    Hi oekoplatt,

I have to apologize; as I mentioned via email, as Post Notif v1.1.3 (released this morning), containing the oft-requested addition of “auto-send” functionality, took much longer than I anticipated, so I made the decision to push consideration of shortcode functionality and bolstering of widget configuration to the next release (along with email batching, which I know is near and dear to your heart 🙂 . I’ll be getting rolling on this very soon.

    Thanks for your patience,
    Devon
