Hey shapeshifterbe –
So in WordPress 3.8.1 the way you install a new theme is by doing the following –
Roll-Over ‘appearance’ on the left and wait for the flyout menu to show up – then click ‘themes’.
Now, up top there is a button called ‘Add New’ – please click this button.
Now, again at top there is a ‘text’ only menu – no ‘tabs’ really, the options are –
Search | Upload | Featured | Newest | Recently Updated
Please click ‘upload’.
This will take you to the screen you need to upload the file.
If the option isn’t there, then please contact your hosting provider as they most likely have something misconfigured or have a weird copy of WP they are deploying on your server.
