In reply to: Editing causes time-outsActually I just tried changing file attributes on the edit files and that didn’t change anything either – still can’t edit.

In reply to: Editing causes time-outsOk, again I just tried to edit something and it wouldn’t let me Save & Continue Editing, or Save, or Publish. It’s timing out, and it is not saving the changes that are made.
Have I got permissions set wrong or something? Is there some code somewhere that I need to change in order for editing to be “saveable”. I don’t want to delete each file and reinput it all the time. And posting works… just not editing *pulling hair out*.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Editing causes time-outsWhat is a network MTU? And where do I check to see if it should be changed?
Also, sometimes when it times out, yes the post is there if it’s a brand new one – but as for the editing stuff – it doesn’t change it at all.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Editing causes time-outsI have a new install of the wp1 on an apache server. Since it’s a new install and I’ve just started using wp again, it’s always done this. I haven’t tried replacing any wp files, if so, which should I replace?
Something else that’s funny is that when I’m editing the templates, the box which shows the template will get bigger. Bigger so I can’t see the scrollbars on the side and have to use the arrow keys to scroll. I’ve also seen this in some people’s comment input box.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Installing went fine but…I just switched providers cuz my last one was pathetically slow. I don’t think I can go through that again. It’s the reason why right now I’m forced to use MT – I’m working and working at getting the Word Press back up and running here.

In reply to: Avant Browser / Press-ItYes, I’ve used it for quite some time myself. I love that you can keep a pile of different sites readily accessible when you open your browser – kind of like a reminder that you wanted to go back to that site, and then you just have to click on the right window at the bottom.

In reply to: Installing went fine but…I went to http://www.jackiefg.com/blog/wp-login.php after your suggestion, and the page showed up fine, but once again, once I logged in, I got the same message as above.
I’m wondering where (it seemed to me in the old version of WP) you put in your site name – like jackiefg.com. All I put in was the database stuff in the wpconfig file, but there was no place to put my site in. Is there another file I should be configuring?Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 1.0 clean install. “It doesn’t look like you’veThis is really pissing me off – I’ve deleted all files, deleted the database – started everything again from scratch. What does it want from me and the database in the database where it says:
SQL/DB Error:
[Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
SELECT option_name, option_value FROM wp_options
Is there something I’m supposed to change here? add? delete?
I got a great install the second time, it said it was creating everything, gave me the password to log in with admin, and as soon as I did I get all these error messages, same as before. And what about the path – am I supposed to put that in somewhere? It looks like it put it in for me but what exactly am I supposed to change in the database? Or even the permissions? Are they supposed to be set to something on any/all the files?Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 1.0 clean install. “It doesn’t look like you’veI don’t even know what 1and1 usernames are, but I put in the database name that my new provider gave me and when I asked them to check the problem they said all that stuff was correct and then looked at the mysqladmin (I forget exactly what it was called) to check the table where option_name and option_value were.
I haven’t put in any user names yet since I just uploaded everything. The index.php page shows up fine, but if you try to leave a comment, you also get this:
SQL/DB Error:
[Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
SELECT option_name, option_value FROM wp_options

Is there something else for me to try? Could it be because my domain hasn’t transferred there yet and so I’ve put in jackiefg.netfirms.com rather than jackiefg.com until it’s transferred.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 1.0 clean install. “It doesn’t look like you’veOk, I’m changing my domain from one provider to another but it’s not transferred over yet, but I thought I’d get everything set up and ready to roll for when it did. So right now I’m at jackiefg.netfirms.com and the template shows up alright – but when I go to the http://jackiefg.netfirms.com/wp-login.php page, I get the following error message:
SQL/DB Error:
[Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
SELECT option_name, option_value FROM wp_options
I’ve checked with my provider and they say the configuration is all set up ok and the connection to the database is fine. What do I do here? I’m starting from scratch with the new WordPress – haven’t even bothered updating (back-up wouldn’t work for me) so it’s brand spanking new.
Please, please, please.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: WordPress One Click BackupWhy am I the only one who can never get this stuff working? I was still getting the error messages and I made sure the dump.php, dump directory, dump/lang_en.inc, and dump/backup files and directories were all set at 766. Then it told me to include the entire path, so on line 26 of the dump.php, I changed it to
” include (“/hsphere/local/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/blog/dump/lang_en.inc”);”
However, I’m still getting this:
Warning: main(/hsphere/local/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/blog/dump/lang_en.inc): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /hsphere/local/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/blog/dump.php on line 26
Warning: main(): Failed opening ‘/hsphere/local/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/blog/dump/lang_en.inc’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /hsphere/local/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/blog/dump.php on line 26
and a whole page more of this message. What is happening with this and what am I missing? I’m following all the directions exactly, and it works for everybody else.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: vBulletin Style Page NavigationCould you tell us how we’d use the code? For example, would we create a new .php page with that code in it and then do an include page_navigation.php somewhere in our index… and if so, would it be included at the top of the page, in the loop, etc.
I know everybody’s not as stupid as I am about php, but I’m sure there are some who would like to know (me included).Forum: Plugins
In reply to: WordPress One Click BackupI’ve tried using the backup and I get the following error messages, I’ll put a link because they’re so long. The first one is http://jackiefg.com/blog/errormessage.html. I have the dump file set at 766. Then I changed permissions, on the folders: set the dump folder to 744 and the backup folder to 766 and got the http://jackiefg.com/blog/errormessage2.html.
Anyone know what I’m doing wrong? I wanted to back up everything since the new WP is out.Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: target=_blank on these forums = bad :)I am a tabbed browser user and I prefer to have all my links open in a new window. I can’t stand using “back” keys or looking for a link to get back to where I was. I like to give people the option of a new window that they can just x out of when done and they’ll still be at my site.
I also hate it when I go to someone’s site, and want to check one of their links, which may lead me to other links, and then I’ve lost the original site unless I go back, back, back, back. I find it a pain in the ass and I don’t always remember to shift-click or right-click because I don’t expect people to be directing me away from their site when I may just want to see what they’re linking to.
Hurray for target=”_blank” (which does validate as transitional XHTML)! And feel free to blacklist my site too.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: XHTML valid new windowsI’m using target=”_blank” and yet my pages are validating fine in XHTML.
