That’s a very good point. I wouldn’t want to break anything for other users of the plugin if they’re always expecting the same filename. Maybe an option to enable it at some point.

Not sure if applicable to you, but I had this issue due to special characters (&) in my gallery title. I believe NextGen is working on a fix for this, but, if applicable, try recreating the gallery (leaving any special characters in title) and see if that fixes the issue for you. Simply renaming the existing gallery won’t work.
