 * Samboll, thanks for your positive comments. I managed to fix it by straightening
out the header file, making sure I had the right DIV tags and the call to the
righthand sidebar was there and in the right place. : – )

 * Well this seems so crazy to me, but (maybe I kind of got this idea from reading
someone else’s post), on the ‘Permalinks’ page, I changed the “Common Settings”
from ‘Day and Name’ to ‘Custom Structure: /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/”
and now all posts seem viewable under there names – so crazy, but just “Thank
   God” it works!
 * Hope this can help anyone else struggling with this same difficult issue….
 * good luck everyone, and keep the faith! 😉

 * I am just re-posting this here in hopes that my problem can get some help (the
other post said ‘RESOLVED’ and of course it is not for me still!)
 * I have been going CRAZY having problems with updating permalinks, trying to change
my .htaccess file, etc, and I still can not view actual posts on my blog site,
jpopexpress.com. I’m really really frustrated now – if anyone can help, I would
   SO appreciate.
 * Let me try to explain what happened so you could maybe better help me:
 * 1) First, I had an issue with one of those ‘500 – Internal Server Error’s (I
had made a duplicate post that suddenly disallowed me to edit or delete any post).
I managed to fix that issue by disabling and re-enabling/updating all of the
plugins that I had set up for the blog (also I upgraded to WordPress 2.6.2).
 * 2) I also followed one user’s suggestion to change the permalink structure to
the default, then I changed it back to the “Day and Name” permalink structure.
This began the permalink problem.) Now I can not view any full post on my site:
 * Jpopexpress.com
 * 3) I will also note that all my blog files reside in the “sitename.com/BLOG”
structure, but are viewable in the root folder – I still really think that this
may have something to do with the problem
 * 4) Again, as I say, I tried to edit the contents of the .htaccess file / changing
permissions of that file, etc, but this did still not resolve the problem.
 * Also, I looked for what used to be the “update permalink” feature, but it looks
as if they no longer have that in the latest (2.6.2) versions of the WordPress
   interface.
 * Any help anyone can provide would be so greatly appreciated…

 * Hey guys, especially dd32 (as it looks by your blog ‘thedailybackground.com’
that you have resolved the issue you had before, which is the same thing I am
dealing with now). I have been going CRAZY myself lately with this same kind

 * Filosofo, thanks a lot for your reply! I am wondering though, on first look,
this code appears to apply to an ENTIRE THEME rather than just one individual
page or post on an “on-the-fly” basis – will this still work _only for one post_?
And I, like other users too I think from searching through the forums, have trouble
locating the WIDGET NAME in the sidebar or dynamic sidebar.
 * Thanks a lot for your help.

 * Hi, first of all – AWESOME plug-in James, thank you for making it. I think this
could really be one of the most useful plugins available for WordPress to a lot
of people. Just wondering though if it would be possible to hack into it to allow
me to add a thumbnail image (like an avatar) adjacent to the Category title w.
link (which I would like to be bold) to represent the author of a regular column
for my site? Any help on this from anyone would be greatly appreciate.
 * And also would be great to know if this (or for that matter any other widget)
could be included directly into a post or page. That is something that I think
is still lacking at least in the WordPress support forums. I’m sure it is possible
to embed the contents of a widget or latest posts from a given category directly
into a post or page by including the proper call to the right WP function, but
that might be a tricky for those who are not at a certain programmer level I
   think.
 * Thanks to everyone who can help! : – ]

 * moshu, thank you! I don’t know what happened before – if the problem was that
I incorrectly entered in the code to put into the ‘index.php’ file, or if it
was because I altered my FTP client settings (this time) to allow for ‘Group
Write’ for the ‘.htaccess’ file in my site’s root directory (per this post:

but apparently it works now – I AM JUST SO RELIEVED that I will not have to re-
post around 300 posts to the new edition of my blog site. Maybe it’s the little
   things I don’t know…..
 * Just one other question though, if I leave publishing settings as ‘Group Write’
for the ‘.htaccess’ file (allowing WordPress to auto-update the contents of this
file), would that pose any security threats to my site – i.e. allowing any vulnerability
to coding attacks of any kind?
 * Thank you so much again, I knew that WordPress still really rocks the house.

 * Oh and I AM able to edit posts here:
    MYSITE.com/BLOG/wp-admin/edit.php
 * but when I try to view a post or the actual MYSITE.COM/BLOG
 * I get another ‘File not Found’ – arg.
 * ANOTHER UPDATE: Now all appears OK (at least in terms of being able to get back
to the ‘BLOG/…..’ structure, which I still will want to get rid of eventually,
and just move posts and categories to MYSITE.COM/etc), yet (at least in Firefox)
when I try to Log Out, it won’t let me and re-directs me everytim to the Admin
Dash. Oh and by the way I am using WP 2.5.1 – some craziness indeed….. I’m even
wondering if it’s a server – hosting provider propagation thing – where it takes
some time to update – I also tried to put:
 * WordPress address (URL): MYSITE.COM/ and
    Blog address (URL): MYSITE.COM/BLOG)
 * to try to take out the “blog” portion of the URL etc.

 * UPDATE: I was since able to retrieve my Admin-Dash (which fortunately game me
access to all of my blog’s posts), but now, everytime I try to load a post (with
the ‘*BLOG/’ removed – so before it was mysite.com/blog/a-post, no the URL on
the home page lists as mysite.com/a-post – i.e. everything with the ‘BLOG’ is
auto-removed), but I just get a 404 – File not Found everytime I click on the
   link.
 * Now I am wondering that EVEN if I have to start all over again, what will happen
if I want to use my site’s root for posts – very perplexing and disturbing. I
do of course have confidence that the posts are there, since they are in the
database, but I would really like to resolve this issue. Thanks everyone.

 * Hi I think something very similar or even exactly the same just happened to me
   as it did for 993C4S:
 * After previously having my blog located at MYSITE.COM/BLOG, and wanting to keep
all of the original blog files and postings in the Blog folder, and just access
them from my ROOT.com folder), my blog is now completely inaccessible.
 * I first tried following the ‘Giving WordPress its own directory’ page instructions
and changing the specs on the Options page to:
    WordPress address (URL): MYSITE.
COM/BLOG and Blog address (URL): MYSITE.COM) and also editing the index.php file(
in the root folder) to `require('./wp-blog-header.php');` – [taking out the `
require('./BLOG/wp-blog-header.php');` Lastly, I copied and pasted the code that
the Admin page told me to insert into the .htaccess file, and ftped them to the
served. At first the blog WAS loading into the ROOT url address, but I still
saw a lot of posts as ‘…./blog/post-name….’ yet they all seem to have their URL
name automatically change to ‘…….ROOT/post-name…’, so after that, I went back
into the Wp-Admin page, selected my site’s ROOT URL for both
 * WordPress address (URL): MYSITE.COM and
    Blog address (URL): MYSITE.COM), and
then that’s when the “barbecuing of my blog” began to occur.
 * Please help – would be SO much appreciated, as neither I nor anyone else can
access my site’s blog at the moment or publish for it – 🙁
 * Thank you so much in advance…..

 * Update on the problem inserting links and images using the WP 2.5 Admin Dashboard
   WYSIWIG editor:
 * I downloaded the Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 4 browser and it took care of this issue–
now able to insert links, images, and embed media – fantastic (oh and this browser
   looks just ROCKIN too already….)
 * Rock on WordPress (and yet another reminder of the need to ensure cross-browser/
   app/API compatibility I guess).

 * For some unknown reason after I was able to re-add the ‘Recent Comments’ widget
I believe it was, the white main body bkgrd color returned, and the footer contents
returned. I can only guess it must have been something involving that theme and
something within the 2.5 version – but fixed now.

 * You mean browser cache? Maybe I will try that. Kind of crazy that you have to
use a beta version of a browser to edit correctly in WP 2.5… I am beginning to
think that the root of the problem I have been having (with the inserting of
link and image) may lie in some kind of issue between WP 2.5 and the Firefox
browser (at least 2.0.0.13). At the same time, I am beginning to find more things
about WP that I like, so I will continue to hang with it.
 * Best of luck to everyone.
