  • debpro, I would

    1) First download the ‘WordPress Database Backup’ from this page:
    http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup/

    2) Install it as a plugin (it’s really easy to use), then

    3) Backup all your files in a database, then

    4) Re-do everything if you still want to at that point.

This way all of the user-generated data (posts, cats, etc) should be left intact “just in case” but you should still probably be fine if and when you re-do the installation of WP. (Just be sure like it says in the documentation not to COPY OVER the wp-content folder, cos that contains all of your custom themes..)

    Good luck!

    Ah 2.5.1 :p…

Not sure, but maybe see if the plugins need to be updated? I think that already this 2.5 may be a fairly major update (i.e. in terms of the effect it could have on a lot of themes that for the last few versions of WP were not that affected). Good luck!

Rhodz, let me share with you some ideas:

    1) I am confident that the sharp WP developers will see all these issues and make the necessary changes – maybe this is just part of a necessary “evolution” and,

    2) I found out something just now that was re-assuring and I think will at least provide a temporary fix. For the time being at least, stick with the ‘HTML’ part of the visual editor. I just realized (thanks to I think reading someone else’s post) that this will still allow you to edit a link (type some text, highlight it, and then select the word “link” in blue, this will thing bring up a pop-up box that DOES successfully allow you to add in a URL – also to insert an image press the “img” button (again in the ‘HTML’ section) this will let you at least enter the URL of an image.

Please pass this on to others as well!

fan, this is EXACTLY what I have been experiencing, and have been trying hard to resolve!

    My browser: Firefox 2.0.0.13

Oh and it also looks like I can’t log in at all in IE 7 – man….

theotheragentm, I can share with you some info on what the new 2.5 editor has been doing to my code (of course along with mdg33’s and many other, even seasoned WP users’ frustration at this new release so far!), I will enter in some code under the ‘HTML’ section of the WYSIWIG, maybe using Rich Text format, not sure if did that with plain text, I will then switch to ‘Visual’ and what happens is some line spacing that I needed is removed, and also select text (that contains a link) gets its font size reduced, completely unintended by me (everything will look fine, then get garbled up somewhat by the editor).

I can’t add any links or images at all with WYSIWIG, have to do it through manual code at the moment.

Yeah I agree with you guys, I was really enthused about WP 2.5, but now I really don’t know – I’m still hoping that they can resolve a lot of the issues that lot of people have been experiencing (I can’t embed or upload any image or even a LINK in the WYSIWIGH in Firefox), preferably with a new release ASAP! I agree with a lot of users too that the changes to the admin dash interface are not up to par, like some of the buttons, and ESPECIALLY the moving of the categories down below on the page.. I like some of the overall attempts to put things in more global categories for publishers (# Write # Manage # Design # Comments), but let’s hope for improvements (and contribute back to the community ourselves).

Rhodz, wow – well good to see someone else experiencing the same problem. I am almost certain they will be addressing a lot of these issues that apparently many people are having with WP 2.5, and releasing a follow-up (2.51?) or patch(es) very soon. Good luck to you too!

sacredpath – well interestingly enough I did notice that the table background that is supposed to be white (from the theme’s template) and is missing in Firefox, i.e. (no background color for the body cell appears in white), does appear in Internet Explorer.

Yes I do hope these issues can get resolved. Maybe this kind of thing is normal in the early stages of any release. We’ll just hope for the best I guess : – >

    sacredpath – Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.13

Hmm I never thought that that could possible be an issue with WP 2.5 functioning. The new Firefox I think was only just released yesterday.
