 * Thanks to EMG, for taking the time to write and explain, even though I disagree
with most of the reasoning. I do still agree with BioSci and idesignyourvision(
as well as everyone else that is complaining, far too many to list).
    The “but
because Web Standards says so” excuse just doesn’t cut it. “Web Standards” is
wrong on this one. I was one of the many who were able to get the plugin fix
working on my sites. But if this sort of thing happens again, we are now fully
prepared to abandon WP. Just FYI.

 * +1 to aharvard.
 * These changes had myself and my client ready to switch to a different CMS earlier
today, before I found the plugin that Andrew already mentioned above. (And, we’ve
been using WordPress for over 3 years, so this wasn’t an issue we considered
   lightly.)
 * Now that the plugin restores **_most_** of the lost features that should have
been retained in the first place, we’ll give WP a chance to correct this huge
mistake. And it is huge… I see more complaints about this here on the support
site than anything else. I’ve never felt the need to comment here on the Feedback
   until now.
 * And I am frustrated by the moderators shutting down comments on this subject –
such as marking Feedback threads “Resolved and Closed” when they most certainly
   are not resolved. For instance…
    [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/major-problems-with-image-editing-in-wp-39?replies=15](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/major-problems-with-image-editing-in-wp-39?replies=15)
 * It will be resolved when WP puts back all the functionality that they took away.
Not when a plugin is found that restores **_some_** features that were lost.
It shouldn’t be necessary to install a plugin for such basic needs.

 * I agree with lohrman. Outrageous. A bad move that needs to be reconsidered by
   the dev team.
 * I was so frustrated about this issue (before I found Andy’s helpful plugin link
above – thanks Andy) that I was actually discussing changing to a different CMS
with my client today. We were (and still are) very seriously considering it,
with the direction WP is taking these days.

 * I also strenuously agree with both idesignyourvision and Cardminnow. (And the
many others before them who are upset at the change.)
 * This was a _very_ bad move by WordPress, and if this sort of direction continues
I will definitely start looking elsewhere. In fact, we are about to start a major
website redesign and this is motivating me to make a CMS change. 🙁 I like WordPress
but I’m not “married” to it.
