thank you for your reply! much appreciated. after further thought on this, i tried google docs again. it worked. i had simply wanted to use my wp site as a source to house the pdf bc i didnt want yet another thing to have to think about (google docs). but this was really easy to make work. thanks again.

Thank you. In my haste I forgot to mention this:
While I do have my own WordPress site, I also published a mini-site/online slide show using Indesign. This site I’m trying to link the PDF to is on an Adobe server. I’m really just trying to use my WordPress site as a place to store the PDF and link to it. It seems convoluted, but I tried to use Google Drive and it isn’t working. Thanks!

And now I’ve received another email:

(I am assuming that all core files would be updated if I updated WordPress as prompted on my dashboard, correct? If yes, then they are up to date)

And no, I am not receiving the automated message from ww.wp.xz.cn when I do all of what you say.

But nothing has changed—when I switch back to my child theme, all the problems still exist.

The problem is still there when I change themes.
    No malware found.

Thanks. I did test after each step. unfortunately the problem is still happening (I realize I wasn’t clear about that in my last mssg).

thanks for your response! i updated wp. i also switched the theme to a 2019 theme—i didn’t receive an email saying that there were issues. but then i switched back to the original theme and didn’t get an email either, so go figure.
