    Hi Jackie,

Well I tried uploading the WordPress files again, but other than breaking my website, it still didn’t allow me to log in to the dashboard. Thankfully I took backups of the files and was able to restore the website.

I’m extremely grateful for your help in trying to find a solution for me, but I seriously cannot spend any more time trying to figure this out. I have already spent way too much time trying to fix it. I would have loved to have found the solution, but I now need to spend my time rebuilding my website without reliance on WordPress.

It simply shouldn’t be this difficult to fix something after an update.

Thank you again for all your help, I really do appreciate it.

    Hi Jackie,

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate your concern, but not sure it is validated. I have set up extra authentication to get to the login/admin page. This has been in place for quite some time and has not been an issue in the past. I just tried what you encountered by pressing the escape key, but was taken to a 401 unauthorised page, which I would expect if you’re unable to successfully authenticate that first step to get to the WP login page.

    I use the following plugins:

    – Advanced custom fields
    – Custom post type ui
    – Google sitemap generator
    – Tiny MCE advanced
    – Updraft plus
    – Flamingo
    – Contact Form 7

Is there anything in particular you’re looking for in the .htaccess file? I did remove it so it would get created again, but didn’t make a difference.

    Hope this helps. Thanks again.

    Hi Jackie,

Many thanks for your response. The site is http://www.hydracon.com.au

I should have mentioned in my original post that I did upload some files manually in case the update had failed. Whether I updated the correct ones, I’m not sure.

With regard to wp-admin vs wp-login.php, wp-admin gets redirected to wp-login.php. Once I knew the url changes in wp-config.php didn’t help, I removed them, so they are no longer in the file.

I’m not sure about the hosting information you’re after. I can contact our hosting provider to find out if need be.
