While the situation may be as you describe, I have had a similar problem since the last update. I have been using updraft plus on two different hosting companies for years now ( thanks for the work by the way). However recently on one account, it seems that each backup run is leaving a lot of open ZIP processes, waiting to read or write via pipe. (This hosting company is VERIO, running FreeBSD 6.4.) Eventually, after many days, number of open processes caused things to shut down.
Again, no solid info at this point, I am continuing to monitor the situation via TOP.
That ( the addition to the CSS) worked for me as well, appreciate the help
