After much examining by Rob, he confirmed his suspicion that the problem was the punctuation in certain words was causing Google to erroneous translate and place garbage on the screen. (i.e. Phys.Ed. and POR). The solution was to wrap those words with <span class=”notranslate”></span> tag to prevent Google from even trying to translate these abbreviations.
Thanks Rob! Your support is amazing and very appreciated.
I’m marking this issue as resolved.
Hi Rob,
The solution you’re suggesting of putting the ‘notranslate’ class on certain parts kind of defeats the purpose of the plug-in. It’s fine to do on the names of the teachers, but it makes less sense on the titles of the teachers. So before I go down that road, I was wondering if there might be another solution. When I call up the Google Toolbar, in addition to a language drop down I also get a “show original” button.
Is it possible to add a ‘show original’ button to my site too? Perhaps it appears when the site is translated? Or is it possible to map the action of “show original” to the default language of the site? So when using your plugin, if I select “English” from the drop down menu the action will be to “show original”?
Thanks again.
Jack
Hey everyone, thank you for the support.
To apostlepoe suggestion: I checked, saved, unchecked, saved all of the options in the setting menu to clear out the 2.7 leftover data.
Rob: There is a problem with punctuation in the menu. Removing the ‘ apostrophe in Principal’s and the / slash in Faculty/staff has cleared up the problem of truncation in the menu. However, the problem still exists in sections of other pages. For example, on the Faculty and Staff page, toggling from English–>other–>English creates “garbage” text like “,ro” “,it” or “,no” after certain names. I believe it is shorthand to identify the language root of certain faculty’s surnames (i.e., “Haber, de” is German and “Amato,it” is Italian).
BTW, I did try deactivating all of the other plugins to see if one of them was causing the problem, but no luck.
Anyway, I think we are at a workable state now that the menu names have been changed. I would love to see the problem totally go away, but if you need to put this problem on the back burner, I would completely understand.
Thank you sincerely for your quick response time and help. Truly amazing.

Hi Rob,
Unfortunately, the problem still exists when using 2.6. I wasn’t sure if it was a problem of where I was placing the shortcode in the header.php. So I moved the shortcode to the top of a page. No luck. The problem still persists.
Here is what I have discovered. The website is in English. When I use google language translator to translate into another language, everything functions as expect. However, if I return the drop-down menu to English, all of my text gets messed up. Specifically all of the menu items and words get truncated to only the first letter of each word or sentence. Now, if I choose Afrikaan…everything is translated to English and we’re right as rain again.
To diagram:
English —> Other Language [all is ok] —> English [everything messed up] —> Afrikaans [translates to English, not Afrikaans, and everything seems reset/ok]You can see it play out on my website: essexpublicschool.com/about/
My other thought was that the plugin might be conflicting with the theme (responsive pro).
Thank you for your time. It’s truly appreciated!

Hi Rob,
I stripped the shortcode from my header.php, then reinstalled using FTP. I now am able to work with the settings like expected. However, like using 2.7, if I translate into another language and back to English, the text on the site gets truncated.
Here is the site: http://essexpublicschool.com/about/
Due to our neighborhood being very multicultural, the ability to translate is a must have.
I’m willing to purchase the pro version of the plugin. Do you know if the truncation happens with it too?
Thanks!!
Thanks Rob,
No luck. Having deactivated and deleted then reinstalling didn’t change the settings error. Btw, it’s only happens with your plugin (not with all settings) and it only started happening after deleting the 2.7 to downgrade this morning. Can you tell me how to delete the setting options. Totally understand why you leave them, but I believe the issue might derive from those lines of code. Thoughts?
Thank you,
JackRob,
Just to be clear, the problem was not resolved with the solution suggested.Thank you.
I did deactivate/delete 2.7 before installing 2.6 as you mentioned. I know that some plugins do not completely delete. I believe that is the case with this plugin as when I reinstall the plugin all of my previous setting come along with the install. In this case, I had de-selected certain language options, selected a horizontal layout, etc.
So is there a way to completely uninstall to where the settings are reset to their default values? If not, would installing the “pro” version of the plugin resolve the issue?
Thank you!!
