 * Well, I’m okay with my solution. I don’t know if my forum will see tons of use—
   it’s just there for customer service (and not intended as a social gathering).
   I still have the concern that other webmasters might not know that their email
   might be visible, but if this is a WordPress matter or a web host matter, then
   I guess not much can be done to alert people.
 * But I am impressed by BBPress and I think the Style Pack is an excellent addition
   and helps to take care of some important settings! Keep up the good work!

 * From what I understand, the Username was defined when I first set up my site,
   and another person who posted a similar problem about his site had a comment
   stating that the username is set to the email address automatically when you
   create a WordPress site. I’m not sure if this is universal with all WordPress
   sites, but I don’t remember having the option to pick a username myself (maybe
   the host assigned it).
 * To answer your questions about my nickname and “Display name publicly as”, both
   are set to “Mr. Vision BASIC”. Next to the username field (containing my email
   address), it says “Usernames cannot be changed.”
 * As I stated before, the problem only arises when hovering over MY avatar and
   the text next to the avatar (nickname, I guess). And my email is compromised
   on my profile page (also stated before, I believe). During the “hovering” over
   the avatar (and nickname), the email address is displayed in small text in the
   lower left corner of the browser window (in a rectangular box).
 * There may be other posts about this issue, but these posts highlight the same
   problem (very old posts), I think (though I think the problem originally extended
   to all forum users):
 * [https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/email-masked/](https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/email-masked/)
 * and
 * [https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/user-profile-url-uses-the-username-can-that-be-changed/](https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/user-profile-url-uses-the-username-can-that-be-changed/)
 * I really don’t want to have to mess with PHP code myself. Like I said, I have
   things set up to “Show only users own Profile” and this seems to hide the email
   address (at least for hovering, and it prevents people from viewing my profile).
 * But again, there may be [some] site owners who implement BBPress and are unaware
   of the potential compromise (I certainly didn’t know it for a good bit). Email
   harvesting from bots is a concern for some, I’m sure (for a non-private forum).
   I’m just trying to make you aware of the issue. None of this is an attack on
   you of any sort.
 * And like I was trying to convey, this isn’t a problem for the typical “participant”.
   This would be a problem for Admins who also have their email used as the username(
   and again, it seems that WordPress assigned my email address as my username when
   I joined up with my web host, so I don’t recall ever having a choice).

 * Your response (via email) had been sent to the “junk” folder in my email, so
   I only saw your update by chance. Sorry!
 * Like I said, this problem has been posted before by at least one or two others.
   When a person runs a WordPress website and has a BBPress forum, hovering over
   their nickname or avatar seems to reveal their email address — as such:
 * [https://mysite.com/forums/users/emailaddress-com/](https://mysite.com/forums/users/emailaddress-com/)
 * This can’t seem to be changed. In my BBPress profile, the top header says:
 * @Emailaddress-Com
 * (of course in both cases I’m doing a substitution for my real email address)
 * So anyhow, like I said previously, I have it set up to “Show only users own Profile”
   under the profile settings (to solve the hovering problem). This doesn’t allow
   people to view each other’s profiles, though. I suppose it’s not a big deal —
   I don’t think my forum will see a tremendous amount of use (it hasn’t yet anyhow).
 * But it’s important to bring up because other folks might be revealing their email
   addresses without knowing it (the webmasters anyhow). The customers get the luxury
   of having usernames formed from their first name and last name separated by a
   period. I can’t change my username myself as far as I can tell.
