Thank you, that worked like a charm. I am embarrassed that I didn’t even think of the minifier, but good to know moving forward.
I have been having a similar problem and have been frustrated looking for a solution. I went back and looked at some of my other htaccess files and noticed the lack of
# BEGIN WordPress
# END WordPress
So I removed them and left everything else as was and it seems to be working for me now.
