I have the same problem the button is grey, however i can hit the alt+shit+a hotkey to get the java popup to at least attempt to work however when i hit insert on the popup it just clears the insert/edit link form not adding anything to the post.
I have tried multiple versions of IE and firefox, a vista as well as xp machine… disabled all plugins still the same problem
running 2.7.1
