Which theme is it? Has it been recently updated?
Check if there as update available. This happened to one of my websites, when I updated the theme and wordpress the problems was solved.
try cropping the featured image around 315 x 150, only the part you want to display because the handler has a landscape view and the images you are using are in portrait.
